About Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Interlibrary loan (ILL) is the process of requesting materials from and supplying materials to another library. See the main CST ILL page to submit an ILL request.
Before you submit a request
Verify in our catalog and both WorldCat and EBSCO databases that the item is not owned by this institution. For articles, the EBSCO databases contain different full-text options for different journals. What may not be available full-text in one database may be available in the other. Please check before making a request. If you need assistance, please contact the .
Who is eligible?
Faculty, students and staff of Denver Seminary are eligible to request items through ILL. Community patrons will need to use their local public library. Adjunct Faculty are eligible for ILL privileges during the semester in which they are currently teaching.
Doctor of Ministry Students and Out of State students
We are unable to fill ILL requests for Doctor of Ministry students and other students who cannot pick up materials directly from the Carey S. Thomas Library. Exceptions include D.Min. students who have exhausted all other options for locating items and will be made on a case by case basis. Items will arrive faster and most likely for a longer check out time if they do not have to be mailed twice. Contact the if you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy.
How long does it take?
Please allow at least two weeks for an item to arrive. ILL is not for procrastinators. We strongly suggest that if an item is held by a local library such as Denver Public Library, Iliff, etc., and you need it quickly, that you check the item out from the library directly.
How am I notified when an item arrives?
The ILL office will contact you via email or phone to let you know the item may be picked up at the circulation desk in the library.
What may be requested?
Any book, article or thesis that is not owned by the Carey S. Thomas Library may be requested. Items that are owned by the library but at the bindery or in missing or lost status may also be requested. Items owned by the library but checked out to another patron may not be requested. Reference items and items on Reserve may not be requested. Please limit ILL requests to no more than 10 items per week.
Dissertations/Theses
Dissertations and theses are often held by only one lending institution and may also be difficult to acquire, particularly in a prompt manner. Tren and UMI both sell copies of dissertations and theses.
Length of Check Out and Renewals
The lending library sets the due dates. Frequently libraries will grant renewals. Occasionally there are other restrictions that must be adhered to. Contact the at least 4 days before the item is due to request a renewal.
Fees and Charges
The ILL office does its best to acquire items at no charge. Students and staff willing to incur interlibrary loan fees should indicate the maximum cost allowable on their request form. Fees will only be charged upon approval of the patron. Fees will not be charged to faculty members.
Items are the responsibility of the patron in who is in possession of them. If an item is damaged or lost while in their possession, the patron will incur charges.
Returning ILL Items
Items are picked up and returned to the Circulation desk in the library.
