Work Study

At Denver Seminary we disburse our federal work study funds to our various institutional departments.  Those departments then advertise work study positions alongside other available on-campus positions.  Unlike other financial aid work study awards are not offered through the Award Letter, rather students apply for a work study position in similar fashion to other on-campus jobs.  Those who are hired will see work study funds disbursed to them through a monthly paycheck.

How do I apply?

        1. Complete a FAFSA

        2. Contact the Financial Aid Office to determine your eligibility (based on unmet financial need)

        3. Research the advertised positions (located on the Student Employment page of MyDenSem, log-in required)

        4. Submit your application, resume and cover letter to for the position(s) of your choice

        5. Respond to interview requests in a timely manner

NOTE: If hired, you will be required to complete and submit a Work Study Acceptance Notice (in conjunction with your supervisor) to the Financial Aid Office.

        Eligibility

Federal Work Study is a need-based award.  The student's Expected Family Contribution (EFC), generated through completion of the FAFSA, will be subtracted from the estimated Cost of Attendance (COA) budget to determine the student's financial need (the annual amount of need-based financial aid a student is eligible to utilize).  As a result of this formula, eligibility for Federal Work Study may be affected if a student accepts other need-based award offers.

The example below is given to help increase understanding of this formula:

Financial need = COA - EFC.  For example, if a student has a COA of $20,000 and an EFC of $5,000, the financial need will equal $15,000.  If the student accepts a Subsidized Direct loan offer in the amount of $8,500 and a need-based scholarship or grant in the amount of $1,500, the total amount of need-based aid accepted by the student totals $10,000 and the remaining financial need will then equal $5,000.  This student is then only eligible for up to $5,000 in Federal Work Study funds.

NOTE: The student must be at least at half-time status (5+ credits/semester) to be eligible for work study, and most on-campus jobs require at least full-time status (9+ credits/semester). Exceptions to this rule are interim terms (Intersession & Summer) and the semester prior to graduation.
