Summer / Intersession Financial Aid
Financial aid functions a bit differently for summer and intersession.
Grants and Scholarships
Grants and scholarships are available for the fall and spring semesters only.
Student Loans
Loans are available to students enrolled at least at half-time status (5 credits), however eligibility depends on what financial aid the student has utilized during the rest of the academic year.
At Denver Seminary the Summer term is a trailer (for example, Summer 2010 is part of the 2009-10 academic year). This means that if the student has already exhausted his or her eligibility during the fall and spring semesters, no eligibility will remain for the summer term. If the student still has eligibility remaining, additional funds can be requested for the summer term (once again, assuming an enrollment of at least half-time status) by completing the Additional Funds Request form on the Virtual Financial Aid Office (VFAO). If the student will be less than half-time during the summer (and is thus not eligible for summer aid), he/she will need to request additional spring aid by May 1st at the very latest (at which point he/she should then send an email to the to authorize the spring funds to be held for summer tuition). If the student has already exhausted Federal Direct loan eligibility by this time, consider applying for a Federal PLUS loan.
Intersession tuition can be paid using spring loan funds, as long as the student has requested/accepted enough financial aid to cover combined intersession and spring tuition before the intersession course starts. If you need to request additional loan funds in order to cover intersession tuition as well, please complete the Additional Funds Request form on the Virtual Financial Aid Office (VFAO) at least one week before the course's start-date.
If an incoming student is starting classes during intersession or summer, a FAFSA will need to be completed to be eligible for loans. The student will need to be at least half-time (5 credits) during the spring semester to be eligible for intersession aid, and at least half-time during the summer to be eligible for summer aid.
