Counseling Program

MA in Youth and Family Ministries with a concentration in Counseling Ministries

The Master of Arts in Youth and Family Ministries with a concentration in Counseling Ministries develops leaders with the vision and training to penetrate today's adolescent world and to facilitate the spiritual nurturing necessary for a more diverse and fragmented family with an emphasis on counseling. The counseling portion of this degree combines biblical and psychological principles. It will not qualify a student for state licensure.

The MA in Youth and Family Ministries with a concentration in Counseling Ministries is excellent preparation for goals such as:
  • Leadership in church-based youth ministries and programs

  • Leadership in parachurch youth programs

  • Wilderness camp programs

  • Campus ministry

  • Ministry with at-risk youth

Structure

In addition to the MA core, the MA in Youth and Family Ministry with a concentration in Counseling Ministries involves 20 hours of Youth and Family Ministry courses plus 12 hours of Counseling courses:

  • Required Youth and Family Ministry courses (20 hrs): Foundations of Youth and Family Ministries, Leadership in Youth and Family Ministries, Evangelism and Discipleship in Adolescent Culture, Practical Communication, Ministering to At-Risk Youth, Moral and Faith Development

  • Required Counseling Courses (12 hrs): Community based Clinical Pastoral Education, Counseling Theories, Brief Counseling, Brief Counseling Practicum, Counseling Children OR Counseling Adolescents, Marital and Premarital Counseling
