General Information for Spring 2008 Commencement
Caps and Gowns
You should plan on picking up your rental graduation regalia from the Registrar's Office the week of May 5-9 (the Monday - Friday prior to the week of graduation). Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. If you are unable to make it to campus during the week of May 5, please contact Omee Thao (303.762.6995 or ) to make other arrangements. Please note that you will need to bring your completed graduating student questionnaire with you in order to pick up your cap and gown. You will also have to work with the Registrar's Office staff to fill out a card to detail the phonetic spelling of your name as you would like the dean to read it during the commencement service. If you have not provided the Registrar's Office with your cap and gown information (height, gown size, cap size) but plan on participating in the commencement ceremony, you should contact Omee Thao IMMEDIATELY.
Graduating Student Questionnaire
The enclosed survey is offered by our professional accrediting association, the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) to allow schools to see how their graduates compare with graduates from other ATS accredited schools. You must turn it in when you pick up your cap and gown. If you have any questions related to the survey, please contact Irene Kristufek (303-762-6925; ).
Childcare
Childcare will be available for children through four years of age during commencement at Southeast Christian Church for your own children as well as the children of your guests. All children must be preregistered in order for them to be admitted to the nursery. The deadline for submitting your childcare registration form is May 9. The registration form is available for download (603 kb .pdf file).
Financial Obligations
Graduates must take care of all financial obligations at the Business Office by 4:00pm on Friday, May 16. Students who have an outstanding balance on their account will not be allowed to participate in commencement.
Final Examinations
Many of you are probably wondering about the policy related to final exams for graduates. Per Denver Seminary's student handbook, "graduating seniors may be exempt from taking final examinations during their semester of graduation if their cumulative GPA is 3.40 or above and they have a grade of B or better in the class. This exemption is at the discretion of the professor."
Commencement
You must arrive at the church by 8:45 a.m. on Saturday morning to allow time to robe and be seated in the sanctuary for the group picture which will be taken promptly at 9:00 a.m. Doors to the sanctuary will open to guests at 9:30 a.m. You are responsible for bringing your own cap and gown (pressed, please). After commencement, all graduates must return their gown and hood to the staff in the robing room before leaving the church. You may keep your cap and tassel. DMin students, please note that even though you will be hooded during the ceremony, it is a rented hood and must be returned at the same time as the gown. Men should wear suits, shoes, and socks. Women who will be wearing a master's robe should wear short-sleeved clothing. Please note that there will be coat racks available in the robing room for those who need to hang up suit jackets or coats. Security staff will be present in the robing room for the duration of the ceremony to ensure the security of your personal belongings.
