Come hear counseling professor Dr. Heather Gingrich at our next Women's Forum as she discusses the painful though pertinent topic of “Hope and Healing for Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse.”

Few of us have not been impacted in some way by child sexual abuse. We may have contact with family members, friends, coworkers or women at church or in the community who have been abused, or we may even be survivors ourselves. In this seminar, symptoms commonly experienced by adult survivors of sexual abuse will be described, and the process of healing discussed. While the topic is painful, the emphasis will be on the hope we have in Christ as the One who can bring wholeness and healing.

Dr. Heather Davediuk Gingrich joined the Seminary faculty in 2005 and is associate professor of counseling. She is a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as a member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, the Rocky Mountain Trauma and Dissociation Society, Division 56 (Trauma Psychology) of the American Psychological Association, and the Stress, Trauma, and Coping Research Group of the University of Denver.

Dr. Gingrich specializes in the treatment of adult survivors of abuse, and has done both research and clinical work in the area of dissociative disorders and trauma. She also has an interest in cross-cultural counseling. Dr. Gingrich has published a number of journal articles, a book chapter, and regularly presents at professional conferences.

Dr. Gingrich earned a PhD from the University of the Philippines, an MA from Wheaton College Graduate School, and a BA from Carleton University in Canada. During her 26 years in the counseling field, Dr. Gingrich has divided her time between clinical work and teaching. She taught undergraduate courses for eight years at Emmanuel Bible College in Ontario, Canada, and taught graduate courses for eight years at Alliance Biblical Seminary and Asian Graduate School of Theology in the Philippines.
