Latino/a Student Endowed Scholarship Fund

Latino leaders must have solid biblical, theological and ministry training to help them lead the next generation of Latino Christians and ministries. In 2005 Denver Seminary began a Spanish language training program called IDEAL (Instituto para el Desarrollo y Adiestramiento de Líderes = Institute for the Development and Training of Leaders). This program, which offers laylevel courses in ministry and leadership, has proven to be an essential stepping stone in introducing the Latino community to Denver Seminary.

However, those who have a higher level of education and wish to pursue a graduate degree at Denver Seminary are often faced with financial barriers. Dr. M. Daniel Carroll R., an IDEAL instructor and Denver Seminary professor, adds, “Denver Seminary can minister to Latino populations in the area of educational needs in various ways. One is through IDEAL, but there is a huge need in facilitating graduate level education for qualified applicants.”

The Latino/a Student Endowed Scholarship Fund was created to provide more Latino students the opportunity to be equipped to serve God’s Kingdom. In order to be eligible for this fund, students must be 50% or more of Latino ancestry. Each applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a Master of Divinity degree. Additionally, applicants must show a need for financial aid and meet academic requirements.

Today, Denver Seminary has over 1000 students and only a few are of Latino heritage. In order for more Latino students to attend, gifts to endowed scholarship funds like this one are vital for equipping pastors, para-church ministry leaders, scholars, counselors and lay leaders who will minister to those in their Latino communities.
