Pastorial Ministry and Societal Ethics

For almost sixty years, Dr. Vernon C. Grounds provided counsel to leaders seeking answers to difficult ethical questions and care for pastors wrestling with these and other issues. His assistance to them has been rooted in the application of the Scriptures to the challenges of life. Through the completion of the Vernon C. Grounds Chair and the launching of the GroundsCenter for Public Ethics (GCPE), Denver Seminary seeks to honor the legacy of Dr. Grounds by hiring a professor and forming a set of programs that will exemplify his passion that wise biblical counsel speaks to the pastoral and ethical dilemmas of today and tomorrow.

The professor selected to occupy this chair will wear the mantel of this great man and be chosen to exemplify the qualities that best describe Dr. Grounds. This professor’s time will be focused on doing research and teaching in the classroom with Christian leaders in areas such as (but not limited to) pastoral care, philosophy of religion and theology, while also providing leadership and facilitating the programs of the GCPE, which targets community leaders worldwide. The GCPE will strategically enhance the Seminary’s mission by equipping leaders who have positions of influence, preparing them to impact society and the world.
