August 2011
From the President's Office, please pray for:
- The full recovery for our graduate and friend, Doug Johnson, who suffered an aneurysm on July 25.
- Praise the Lord for the beginning of construction on new classrooms and the Vernon and Ann Grounds Student Center.
- Safety during construction and for completion of the classrooms before the beginning of the fall semester.
- Dr. Mark and Priscilla Young as they travel this summer, that God will open many opportunities to share the mission of Denver Seminary and encourage others to step out in faith and become a part of what God is doing here.
From Advancement, please pray for:
- The $2.4 million capital campaign which will fund the campus expansion for more classroom space, a larger student center, improved classroom technology and extra parking. The Lord has blessed us with a great kickoff to the campaign as $1.5 million remains to be funded. Pray specifically that God would raise up givers to help us reach this goal.
- Jim Howard and Chris Johnson as they continue to share the good news about the exciting mission, vision and growth of Denver Seminary with new key friends who could become our strategic partners.
- The 9th annual golf tournament on September 12, 2011 at Hiwan Golf Club. Pray for great success in raising money for the General Scholarship Fund to benefit the cost of tuition for every student.
From Educational Programs, please pray for:
- Work on the reaccreditation Self Study reports. This is a large, complex and very important task. Pray for members of study groups as they complete research and writing, for Dr. Jim Beck as he edits, and for Suzanne Matson as she provides oversight and support in a variety of tasks. Pray for energy and wisdom.
- Please pray for Venita Doughty, Director of Educational Technology, as she starts chemotherapy and radiation treatment for stage 2 cancer. Please pray for God’s healing and that she will tolerate the treatments well. Pray for wisdom for the doctors and for God’s peace for Venita and her family.
- Dr. Don Payne's two sons, Jim and Robb, as they each seek new employment.
African American Initiative, please pray for:
- AAI Director and Admin Asst. to be able to serve Denver Seminary and AAI students effectively in 2011-2012
- The recruitment of at least 10 new students for the 2011/12 school year
- Funding for activities and workshops on and off campus
- That the forums, workshops and classes to be well attended.
Counseling Ministries, please pray for:
- That the CACREP Re-accreditation report will be completed by August 15, and that it will be favorably received by CACREP.
- The new students coming in to the Counseling Division, that they would continue to keep their focus on Christ as they begin their educational program. Pray for God’s blessing and protection for our students.
- Dr. Jan McCormack and Roger Cauthon as they prepare to go before the ACPE Committee to be approved as CPE supervisors. Pray that they would well and faithfully represent themselves, the Seminary, and the Lord in such a way to have a favorable approval for their status as supervisors.
- Dr. Jan McCormack as she is having some health issues. Pray for wisdom and resolution to these issues.
- Pray for Dr. Betsy Nesbit, our new Counseling Division professor, that she would have a great first semester here at Denver Seminary. This is also a praise that she has joined our Counseling Division team!

- Praise for the successful surgery for our Director of Communications, Pam Burton. She is walking well, but is currently struggling with sleeping through the night since it is difficult for her to remain in a comfortable position. Please pray for a complete recovery, healing and a full night sleep.

- Continue to pray for Dr. Hélène Dallaire, Associate Professor of Old Testament. Dr. Dallaire is originally from Canada and is in the process of receiving permanent residency in the U.S. Pray that the process with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) will go quickly and she will receive a green card for permanent residency this year
African American Initiative, please pray for:
- AAI recruitment to impact at least 10 new students
- AAI graduates to be placed in ministry
- AAI funding for activities and workshops on and off campus
- AAI forums, workshops and classes to be well attended.
- AAI Director and Admin Asst to be able to serve Denver Seminary and AAI students effectively in 2011-2012
Counseling Ministries, please pray for:
- Heather Gingrich who is on sabbatical from July 1, 2011 to January, 2012, that she will find an appropriate balance between personal and spiritual rest and renewal and the many writing projects that are on the agenda.
- The Gingrich’s son, Brandon, just graduated from high school and is looking for a full-time job. Please pray that God will lead him to something that could eventually allow him to live independently; more of a challenge for a young man who does not have the interest or ability to attend college.
- The Shepherd’s Gate Clinic, the clients, students, supervisors and staff. We would appreciate prayer to cover the people and the work we do with God’s blessing.
- The Counseling Division as we complete the writing of the CACREP Accreditation report.
- Dr. Jan McCormack as she teaches at our sister seminary in Guatemala, SETECA. She will be in Guatemala from July 1 to July 11.

- God to open doors of ministry for our recent grads, and that they will be willing to go and serve wherever God leads.
- Dr. Mark and Priscilla Young as they travel this summer, that God will open many opportunities to share the mission of Denver Seminary and encourage others to step out in faith and become a part of what God is doing here.
- Thank God for the Board Members who faithfully serve Denver Seminary, for their sacrifice and commitment.

- Dr. Jim Beck as he edits the two reaccreditation Self Study reports. This is a large, complex and very important task. Pray for clarity and wisdom.
- Continue to pray for Dr. Hélène Dallaire, Associate Professor of Old Testament. Dr. Dallaire is originally from Canada and is in the process of receiving permanent residency in the U.S. Recently she has experienced some challenges with the U.S. residency process and if it doesn't get resolved quickly, it will require her to return to Canada.
Specific requests for Dr. Dallaire:

- The Department of Labor (DOL) system would allow for the withdrawal of the 2008 application (right now it is stuck and they will not allow her to proceed with a new application)
- That the lawyer will be able to submit a new application with the DOL
- That the process with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) will go quickly
- She will receive a Green Card for permanent residency this year
African American Initiative, please pray for:
- AAI to get its brochures, flyers, website and and other media materials done.
- The Wakefield and Woolfolk families as they grieve losses in their family.
- Clarity for partnership with AA denominations and churches.
- Pray for AAI resources for forums, workshops, lectures and small groups.
Counseling Ministries, please pray for:
- The CACREP Re-accreditation process. Our major report is due at the end of July. Pray for wisdom and endurance to finish well.
- The CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) program that has three sections & 12 students this summer. Also be in prayer for the three supervisors in training in CPE this summer.
- Dr. Jan McCormack and Roger Cauthon as they prepare for their ACPE Candidacy Committee which will meet in September. Jan and Roger were both denied last Fall, so pray for favor for them both with the committee this fall.
- Dr. Jan McCormack as she teaches a Crisis Counseling course at our sister seminary, SETECA, this summer (July 4-8) in Guatemala.
- Pray for safe travel for Dr. Jan McCormack and her husband, Steve, as they travel in Puerto Rico June 22-July 2 for a denominational conference and vacation before going to Guatemala.
- Praise: Brandon Gingrich, son of Fred & Heather Gingrich, graduated from High School this spring, despite struggling academically throughout. Please pray that he will find his niche in terms of a job/career.
- Praise: Nathan Gingrich (2nd son!) has been experiencing less nausea over the past month. Please continue to pray for a full restoration to health.

- The Advancement department as we meet with alumni around the country as we seek to improve our alumni relations.
- Praise that Jim Howard has recovered well from major surgery in March. Thank you for your prayers!
- Our Director of Communications Pam Burton as she prepares for major surgery in early June.
Educational Programs:
- Please pray for the faculty and staff members who are writing portions of the two reaccreditation Self Study reports. This is a large, complex and very important task. Pray for discipline and wisdom.
- Pray for the African American Initiative (AAI) students to finish well
- Pray that AAI can mediate effectively with the studenst that have issues
- Prayers for Dr. Robert Wolfolk:
- His son Rodney who needs surgery, granddaughter Sachet who injured her leg in a car accident, and daughter Roberta who is recovering from pneumonia
- Pray for our Community Outreach Service Center ministry as they put into place the grant for Re-entry Second Chance.
- Pray for may wife, Eddie Mae and I as we face the interaction in all the ministries.
- Praises that Dr. Payne's son Robb has found full-time employment.
Counseling Division:
- Complete healing for Debbie Edwards’ shoulder. Debbie broke her shoulder in a fall while doing work in her backyard at home.
- Blessings on our students and clients in Shepherd's gate as they close out the spring semester and begin again this summer with new student counselors.
- Blessings on the writing of the CACREP Accreditation Report, which is due in July. Pray for God’s continued guidance as we complete this process.
- Pray for God to watch over our graduates and lead them to the job/position He has prepared for them

Advancement, please pray for:
- Pray for Jim Howard, the VP of Advancement, as he recovers from a recent Surgery.
- Pray for the advancement team as they work together to fill the gaps while Jim is out of the office.
Counseling Division, please pray for:
- Dr. Heather Gingrich’s book proposal which was recently sent to a publisher will be positively received.
- Kerri Williams, our Assistant Clinical Training Director, would appreciate prayer for God’s will in the sale of her house and that the bank would be cooperative in the sale; also that her move with her 4 children to a new place would be as smooth as possible.
- Ron Welch and Sharon Gipe, as they continue to work on the CACREP Reaccreditation report. The report is due in July, and we would appreciate prayer that things would continue to go smoothly towards the completion of this report.
February 2011
Advancement, please pray for:
- Pray for the safety and health of Jim Howard, the VP of Advancement, as he travels to Nepal in February and prepares for major surgery in March.
- Praise for our new Director of Development Chris Johnson. We are thankful he has joined our team!
- Pray for the Pastors Luncheon, that it will be a time of encouragement for local Pastors and Parachurch ministry leaders as they hear from the speaker, Dr. Erwin Lutzer.
Educational Programs, please pray for:
- Please pray for the Chairpersons and members of the six reaccreditation self study Study Groups as these SGs now move into the important work of writing the reports that we will send to our accreditors.
- Pray that we would find an editor for the final reports of the reaccreditation Self Study.
- Please pray for Dr. Payne's son, Robb as he continues to seek adequate employment and direction for his future education.
Counseling Division:
- Please pray for our Counseling Division as we continue to go through the reaccreditation process with CACREP. Our report is due in the summer, so prayers that we are able to complete the writing of the report in the coming few months would be greatly appreciated.
- Please also pray for our students who are serving in their internships throughout the Denver Metro region.
Student Life:
Please pray for Joanne Heim, a Biblical Studies Old Testament student. She is in the hospital recovering from a severe stroke she had on January 11. We are praying for her recovery and for God to surround her family (husband and two young daughters) with peace and comfort.
December 2010
- That the Seminary would be selected by the Kern Family Foundation to receive the Kern Scholars Initiative grant of $1.5 million over the next five years.
Advancement, please pray for:

- The Chairpersons and members of the six reaccreditation self study Study Groups as these SGs they review research on the seminary
- The African-American Initiatives (AAI) can get a Focus Group organized to get the pulse of the AA students.
- AAI can get some scholarship funders for AAI students.
- AAI can get more mentors from the AA churches for students.
- AAI students have greater success as they matriculate.
October 2010
- Wisdom and discernment as we seek to fill the position of Director of Development.
- Praises to the Lord that we have hired two new people for our department. Pam Burton is the new Director of Communications and Jessica Henthorne is the Communications Assistant. Pray for them as they adjust to their new jobs.
- Please pray for Keith Clerihue who has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.
- Praises to the Lord for the many donors who support our mission on a monthly basis.
- Praises to the Lord for the many friends that came to support Denver Seminary at our Golf Tournament. It was a successful fund-raising event.

For Don Payne's youngest son, Robb, as he seeks God’s direction and provision for a possible transfer of colleges, and for his oldest son Jim, as he graduates from CU-Boulder this December and seeks direction for his future.
