Washington Press Conference (6/12/2012): Evangelicals Call for Immigration Reform!!!
Jun 13, 2012 by M. Daniel Carroll R. | 0 Comments
Tuesday, June 12th, was an important day for evangelicals in the growing call for a change in this country’s immigration laws. At 11:30 am a representative group from around the country of key evangelical leaders and ministry representatives presented the “Evangelical Statement of Principles for Immigration Reform” at a news conference in our nation’s capital.
What is amazing is the breadth of the groups that appeared at the conference and that have signed the document. Here is the link to the website that has the statement and the signees: http://www.evangelicalimmigrationtable.com/. If you agree with what is said there and would like to express solidarity with it, please feel free to add your name! My name appears under “Academic Leaders.”
The hope is that both political parties in this country can see that the moral demand for immigration reform transcends party lines and that evangelicals ground it in the Scriptures and their Christian faith not in partisan politics. Perhaps evangelicals, who might have been fearful to speak out, can now take courage in the wide spectrum of denominations, ministries, and institutions that this statement stands for. For those who have been against reform, maybe this document will give them pause and encourage them to rethink their view.
The press conference today and this statement are another indication that things are beginning to happen across this land on the topic of immigration that we have not seen before. God’s Spirit is at work, and his Word is having a wonderful impact!
