Mission Statement  HealthCare Chaplaincy�s mission is to advance the profession of pastoral care through visionary leadership and continuing excellence in innovative research, education, and clinical services.  The Position: Vice President of Research, Spears Research Institute            The Vice President will define, develop, manage and implement the research agenda of the Spears Research Institute to support the development of recommendations, solutions and new knowledge that will advance the profession of pastoral care. Working with senior colleagues at HCC, the Vice President leads a team of research professionals, post-doctoral fellows, and support staff.   S/he reports to the Chief Operating Officer/Executive Vice President.    Primary Responsibilities   1.	Serve as principal in the design and conduct of an innovative research agenda to advance HCC�s mission and the profession of pastoral care.  ?	Keep abreast of emerging trends and issues in pastoral care, palliative care, end of life, health care delivery systems, spirituality and health, and community-based healthcare, translating such into a defined and focused research agenda. ?	Define and manage research projects so they can be assessed in terms of timelines and measurable outcomes. ?	Provide dynamic, effective leadership to advance new initiatives in research and program development and evaluation, such as reliable metrics to establish performance benchmarks for chaplains as well as assessment tools to evaluate educational programs and products.  2.	Work with the Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs and Pastoral Care Leadership and Practice to develop and implement collaborative research among faculty, clinicians and students.   ?	Develop educational courses for use by current and future clinicians and faculty on quantitative and qualitative research methods.   ?	Work with chaplains and faculty to integrate research into their clinical/educational responsibilities, including participation as effective research partners in collaborative studies.  ?	Serve as the primary resource in identifying and providing research topics for educational forums  3.	Identify and develop new funding sources for research initiatives in collaboration with the Advancement department and senior staff.   ?	Identify and develop new research products for nationwide market dissemination. ?	Develop new proposals and timely updates to foundations and donors.  4.	Proactively develop additional research partnerships with leading academic and medical institutions.  ?	Identify and cultivate new academic and medical institutions for collaborative efforts. ?	Co-author studies with researchers from prominent academic and medical institutions.  5.	Serve as the primary communicator on research findings to external print and electronic media. ?	In conjunction with the Marketing/Communications department, cultivate relationships with editors of print and electronic media as well as new routes for knowledge dissemination. ?	Monitor submissions and develop strategies to increase publication of research findings. ?	Ensure that research findings are presented at major research conferences.  Management Responsibilities  ?	Develop research agenda and guide researchers towards fulfilling research ?	Provide supervision and timely feedback to subordinates. ?	Develop and manage the research budget according to funders� and HCC policies. ?	Provide regular reports to committees of the Board of Trustees.  Qualifications  A creative researcher, strategic leader, and program administrator who brings a record of published, innovative research.   The ideal candidate will possess:  Earned PhD in psychology, sociology, anthropology, religious studies, social sciences, or a related discipline, focus on the development of research in the areas of spirituality, aging, and healthcare systems is preferred.   ?	Advanced skills in qualitative and quantitative methods, including survey design and analysis, multivariate statistics, and program evaluation ?	The ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English in public settings, both orally and in writing; the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team; and a strong commitment to the HCC mission and its core values  ?	Knowledge of public and private funding agencies and foundations, and their grant-making guidelines and five years of grant management, including successful identification of funding opportunities, proposal writing, presentation, and budget management ?	Proven experience and skills as a writer, teacher and/or clinician preferred ?	A minimum of five years of administrative or supervisory experience, including the mentoring and developing of junior staff, setting project standards and monitoring progress and leading and directing multi-disciplinary teams Compensation:   Compensation will be negotiated commensurate with experience and performance.
