  <description>Purpose – The Head Teacher at the Open Door Childcare is responsible for planning, implementing, and providing leadership for a developmentally appropriate curriculum for a group of children in a full-day preschool program. This includes assessment and documentation of children’s progress, effective communication with parents, and supervision of assistant teachers and aides. The Open Door Childcare Center is a part of Open Door Ministries.

Organization: Open Door Ministries (ODM)
Spiritual Oversight: Elders of Open Door Fellowship (ODF)
Administrative Oversight: Preschool Director
Title: Head Teacher
Time: 40 hours per week
Salary: hourly and health insurance provided

Church Attendance: One ODF Sunday Service (8:30am, 11:00am, or 4:30pm)
Meeting Attendance:
•	Open Door Fellowship quarterly chapel service
•	Open Door Ministries staff meetings

Qualifications: Minimum of two years experience directly working with children in a childcare or similar environment. Preschool Teacher Qualified. Minimum education requirements: BS/BA degree. Individuals who have not fulfilled these experiences or educational requirements may be hired as an Assistant Teacher for a 3-month provisional period; if performance is satisfactory at this time and a plan is in place for completing the lacking requirements, staff member may assume position of Head Classroom Teacher.

Responsibilities:
•	Must be skilled in verbal and written communication, demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality
•	Must be able to lift children/equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and utilize child-sized furniture or sit on the floor as appropriate.
•	Assume overall responsibility for the protection and safety of a group of children when Director is not present, this includes: ensuring that staff/child ratios are adequate, interacting with parents, ensuring clean up and lock up is completed, etc. 
•	Invite and incorporate the ideas of assistant teacher and aides
•	Assume responsibility for planning a visually pleasing, intellectually stimulating, child centered environment; ensure that classroom is maintained in an attractive condition
•	With Director, arrange and conduct regular parent conferences; maintain regular informal contact with parents regarding each child’s progress at home and school; maintain and record observations on and work samples from each child
•	Maintain appropriate contact with various outside professionals working with children.
•	With Director support, research, develop, and implement means of accommodating special needs 
•	Physically work and play with children in a variety of contexts: indoors (at table, on floor) outdoors, on fieldtrips, and other situations.
•	With Director, develop and pursue a plan for professional development, including trainings after work or on weekends
•	Complete and submit all daily, weekly, and monthly forms and records, including but not limited to forms for attendance, staff/child ratios, meals served, food program, accident, etc.

o	OR completion of 12 semester hours from a college in each of the following subject areas:
•	Either Intro to ECE or guidance strategies (required)
•	Plus 9 months (1395 hours) of experience
o	OR completion of a vocational or occupational education sequence in child growth and development plus 12 months (1820 hours) of verified experience
o	OR Have certification as a child development associate or certified child care professional
o	OR completion of a course of training approved by the department that includes training and work experience in a child growth and development program plus 12 months (1820 hours) of verified experience
o	OR 36 months (5,460 hours) of experience
o	OR 24 months (3,640 hours) of experience plus a  Colorado level 1 credential or 2 three-semester hour ECE courses  with one course being intro to ECE or guidance strategies
o	All college course grades toward qualifications must be “C” or better

Expectations
We expect the preschool teacher to be educated, kind, loving, fun, professional and creative.  Teachers should instill a love of learning in their students, and focus on helping each individual student learn at his or her own pace.  Lead teachers should be reliable and independent.

Job Responsibilities

Lead Teacher:
-	Implementing and teaching the preschool curriculum
-	Getting the classroom prepared and ready in the morning and cleaning up in the afternoon
-	Create a positive learning environment and use appropriate behavior management and classroom discipline.
-	Greet and talk with parents as the children are dropped off and picked up
-	Maintain a safe and healthy environment
-	Use creativity to add to the curriculum as needed

Teacher’s Assistant
-	Assisting the lead teacher in implementing and teaching the preschool curriculum
-	Getting the classroom prepared and ready in the morning and cleaning up in the afternoon (vacuuming, taking trash out, wash dishes, put toys away, etc.)
