Denver Seminary awarded prestigious $1.5 million grant from the Kern Family Foundation
Denver, CO - Denver Seminary has been selected by the Board of Directors of the Kern Family Foundation to receive $1.5 million for the Kern Scholars Initiative. The grant will allow the seminary to provide scholarships to men and women who seek seminary education in response to God’s call to serve as pastors of local churches in the United States.
“We are pleased and grateful to have been chosen as a recipient of the Kern Scholars Initiative,” said Vice-President of Student Life Robert Jones. “The grant will aid the seminary in recruiting the best and brightest young men and women and help these students graduate with little or no debt. This is a wonderful gift, and we celebrate it as recognition of the work we do in preparing young men and women to engage the needs of the world.”
The Kern Scholars Initiative was created in 2002 and has provided selected seminaries, including Denver Seminary, with grants for scholarships awarded to evangelical men and women committed to lifelong service in pastoral ministry. The initiative supports highly-qualified students seeking the Master of Divinity degree, strengthens the education and practical experience they receive in seminary, and cultivates a growing nationwide network of pastors. The first recipients of this Kern Scholars grant will begin their theological education in fall 2011.
Founded in 1950, Denver Seminary is an interdenominational, evangelical graduate seminary serving men and women from around the world. In its 61 year history, the seminary has gained the reputation as one of the top 15 schools in size among accredited, graduate-level seminaries in the U.S. and Canada and is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Currently, more than 1000 students are enrolled in the seminary’s Master of Divinity, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Ministry degree programs.
