Crisis Intervention and Support
- Feb 26, 2010
Once again tragedy has touched children, parents, teachers, friends and churches in Denver Seminary's own backyard. Any parent or teacher may feel the fear and terror of innocent children at risk. For some, the Deer Creek Middle School shootings in Littleton earlier this week has brought back the horror and uncertainty of the Columbine and Bailey school shootings.
Denver Seminary offers a Crisis Intervention Stress Management (CISM) Team, under the auspices of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF), to help persons affected by these types of crises cope. Most ICISF teams work with the First Providers (police/fire/EMT) so that they can keep doing their jobs, but Denver Seminary's CISM Team is chartered as a “one-of-a-kind” specialty team to work with the leadership of any religious or higher education institution, so that they can in turn help their members and students.
If you, your church, or your religious groups’ leadership has been affected by this shootings at Deer Creek Middle School, and if you would like some FREE pastoral crisis intervention and support, our Team is available to assist. Please contact Dr. Jan McCormack at for information and assistance.
We praise God that these two children’s lives were spared, that no others were physically harmed, and that school and community safety training paid off. May we all pray as well that the emotional and spiritual scars heal and that God provide a hedge of protection around innocent children everywhere.
