Moodle Down

  • Sep 8, 2008

Sometime between 2:00 and 3:00pm on Sunday, September 7, someone hacked into Moodle and loaded some malicious programs and scripts. Denver Seminary's Tech Department was made aware of the problem and shut down Moodle and all of Denver Seminary's campus Internet access around 4:15pm that same day.

This malicious program redirected all Moodle pages to an inappopriate web site. Because Moodle was the only system affected (all other Seminary systems and databases are on completely separate servers), personal information about students, staff, faculty, alumni, mentors and other friends was not compromised as a result of this attack.

Internet access for the campus was restored this morning around 9:30am, but Moodle remains shut down at this time, as we are confident that Moodle was the point of entry for the hackers. As the tech team removes the malicious files, Moodle will be down until the close of the business day on Tuesday, September 9.

If you need information about your classes, we encourage you to contact your professors directly until Moodle is back up and running.

Thank you for your patience as the Tech Team works to resolve this problem and find solutions to keep it from happening again.
