Denver Seminary announces partnership with
Southeast Christian Church to provide:
Full-Tuition Master of Arts, Pastoral Residency Program.
LITTLETON, COLORADO: Denver Seminary, in conjunction with Southeast Christian Church, are partnering to offer a Pastoral Residency Internship Program that blends a full-tuition, Master of Arts seminary degree with practical leadership experience in a church ministry setting. This internship program will provide the opportunity to match intense practical experience with seminary classroom learning.
The intern will participate for three years to be maintained in the form of three, one-year agreements. While the intention is for the intern to complete the program in three-years, this plan would allow the church and/or the intern to choose to renew or not to renew the agreement annually.
Southeast Christian Church (SECC) will pay the full cost of tuition and fees for the student’s degree program, and would provide a reasonable allowance for textbooks. The student is expected to complete his/her graduate degree within the three year time frame. Additionally, Southeast Christian Church will pay a monthly stipend to assist the student with living expenses.
This highly selective internship requires 25-28 hours per week for twelve months of the year in the assigned ministry department at Southeast Christian Church. While each intern will experience an overview of church ministry, he/she will be assigned to an area of concentration based on the current needs of SECC as well as the intern’s areas of interest, calling and abilities. Areas of ministry concentration may include: Student Ministry (middle school and/or high school), Pastoral Ministry, Worship, Mission/Outreach, Care, or Spiritual Formation.
Director of Ministries at SECC, Polly Lott indicated, “These years of hands-on experience in leading ministry coupled with a Master of Arts degree, should give the intern a distinctive advantage when seeking full-time ministry opportunities after completing this program”.
It is anticipated, that the success of this program will become a model for other Churches to partner with Denver Seminary in adopting similar Pastoral or Ministry Residency Internships in connections with seminary degree programs.
Criteria for selection include spiritual maturity, strong character, ministry skills, career goals, references, ministry track record, and employment experience. The selection of candidates would begin with their acceptance as students at Denver Seminary. The intern must be an actively enrolled student in good academic standing in a Master of Arts degree program at Denver Seminary for all of his/her internship.
All applicants will submit a resume via email to . Next steps, upon request, would include submission of an application with permission for background and initial reference checks, and finalists will complete a formal interview process. Internships for the next academic year will be awarded in early May 2013 with the internship officially beginning August 1, 2013.
