Position: System Programmer for Protestant mission agency
Responsible to: IT Coordinator
OMF International is a growing interdenominational mission organization focusing on reaching the people of East Asia. Founded as the China Inland Mission by Hudson Taylor, we are building on our rich heritage of faith and perseverance to see an indigenous, biblical church movement in each people group of East Asia. Our mission in OMF (U.S.) is to glorify God by mobilizing the resources needed for the urgent evangelization of East Asia's peoples.
We are looking for a Systems Programmer to maintain and develop compelling tools and resources for our ministry of mobilizing people to pray, go and send.
Requirements:
- Database experience (especially MS SQL Server and MSDE, MS Access, spreadsheet imports/exports/transformation, MS Jet databases, MySQL or other FOSS dbs).
- Windows Server experience (NT4 and higher, AD a plus).
- Familiarity with one or more BASIC languages.
- MS-Windows scripting.
- Customer support skills (technical support, phone troubleshooting, QA with end users, patience).
- Has a teachable spirit and flexible attitude.
- Has the ability to proactively plan and work.
- Has the ability to work within an international, interdenominational organization.
- Has a mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Desires to see God's glory known among the peoples of East Asia.
- Has a strong support team for both prayer and finances (full financial support needed).
- Is endorsed and supported by local pastor and church.
- Minimum 4-year commitment preferred.
Job Summary:
- Responsible for a variety of programming and technical support duties, primarily dealing with programming our workflow and contact management applications in the existing Lotus Notes/Domino environment, donor relations management, finance and accounting systems, and with a variety of other databases, systems, and information sources.
- Connecting disparate databases and information sources both programmatically, and on an ad-hoc basis.
- Is able to multi-task.
- Needs to be able to communicate to a broad and varied audience expanding over the common divides of age, demographics and ethnicity
- Has an interest in missions and cross-cultural experience.
Valuable skills and experience are: Lotus Notes programming/design experience, Windows Active Directory administration, previous missions work, accounting/finance (applications and skills), Unix administration/support experience (incl. Linux in a multi-user setting), project management, spoken language skills (esp. East Asian, i.e., Korean, Japanese, Mandarin), professional working experience in a non-profit setting, OpenBSD, certification as a Microsoft trainer, Mac OS X experience/skills, technical writing, XML, mail server administration, Windows scripting (batch/netsh/VB), interpreted language programming/scripting.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and support level (you will need to raise full financial support for living and ministry expenses).
