Description:Open Door Ministries (Open Door) is a non-profit Christian community development organization created in 1997. It is committed to meeting immediate, practical needs in the lives of underprivileged people in Denver. The primary objective is to move them toward self-sufficiency by helping change the circumstances and life patterns that have held them captive to poverty and addictions.
Still Waters Housing offers real hope and life-change solutions that go far beyond a place to sleep or a single meal. The target population is homeless women who realize their need for practical help in getting out of negative situations such as addictions, abuse, prostitution and emotional instability.
Chayah House is a home for single women who are homeless due to various setbacks, such as imprisonment, drug or alcohol abuse, physical abuse and mental illness. It can house six women at a time.
Esther House is a transitional home for women, primarily targeting those leaving the sex-trade industry, addictions and other destructive lifestyles. It can house five women at a time.
Treasure House is a home for at-risk single mothers and their children. They typically come from backgrounds that include drug or alcohol abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental illness and broken families. Residents can be as young as 16 years old. There are beds for four women and up to six children.
The internship can be part-time (20-25 hours per week) or full-time (40 hours per week) for the semester. I can have up to two women interns for each house. You would work closely with the director, this will result in learning how the house is ran, experience an urban ministry setting and understanding it's specific challenges, spending time with the women and supporting them, leading prayer and Bible studies, oversee volunteers, etc. It's an unpaid internship but you have the option of raising support and we can train you in how to do that. The other part of the internship is learning and practicing self-care when working in ministry. Graduate level interns are able to work with the house director and the internship director to design their internship to their strengths, what they want to learn, and where to grow.
