1. How do I find the recommended list of commentaries for the Old Testament and New Testament?
The Old and New Testament professors have compiled a bibliography of helpful biblical studies tools. These lists, which include commentaries, are included in the Denver Journal. Look under Annotated Old Testament Bibliography and New Testament Exegesis Bibliography.
2. Can I check out books if I'm not a Denver Seminary student?
Those unaffiliated with the Denver Seminary Community (faculty, staff, current students, etc.) wishing to take out books from the library, must purchase a library card. There is a $25.00 fee (per year) for unaffiliated patrons, allowing a 4 week checkout for up to 5 books at a time.
Colorado Christian University student and faculty may purchase a library card for $10.00/yr. Students from Association of Theological Schools (ATS) schools, may obtain a yearly card at no cost with proof of current student status.
Apply online for a library card. You must complete the application process in person at the library within 30 days of submitting the online application.
Interlibrary loan is another option for unaffiliated patrons (or Denver Seminary Doctor of Ministry students who do not live locally.) Most public libraries take part in interlibrary loan. Typically there is no cost for this service.
3. What is the charge for a lost book?
If a patron loses a Denver Seminary book, the usual fine is $80.00 (or replacement cost) plus $5 processing fee. The fine for a lost interlibrary loan item can result in a charge of up to $200 and is determined by the loaning library.

2. How do I find journal articles once I have a citation?
To see if the Carey S. Thomas Library holds a particular journal title, the hardcopy listings are available in the library. Then simply locate the item in the periodical section of the library. If CST does not own this particular journal title, try checking to see if any electronic databases contain the full text of the article. If not, browse Iliff's catalog for their journal holdings. Also search the Prospector Union Catalog to see if other local libraries hold this journal title. If these avenues prove fruitless, request the item via ILL (Interlibrary loan.)
3. What if CST does not have what I'm looking for?
Interlibrary loan (ILL) services are available to acquire most items not owned by CST. See the ILL pages for limits and forms.

1. How do I access the Online Catalog?
The library's online catalog, is accessible anywhere internet access is available, on or off campus.
2. How do I know if a book is both in Reference and Stacks?
When viewing the search results, the listings under "location" indicate where the item may be found. The collection and call number will be given for each item. A Reference item will be in the Reference collection. A copy that can circulate will usually be in the Main Stacks collection.
Note: copies of commentaries in both Reference and Stacks may have different call numbers.
3. How do I know if a book is on Reserve?
View the record for an item in the catalog. The location information indicates when an item is on reserve and whether or not it is available. It will be held with other reserve items behind the circulation desk.
4. How do I renew a book?
Select the "My Account" tab. Login following the prescribed procedure. (LibraryID is the full barcode as found on your library card or your Seminary ID. if you opened your account prior to 2011, the PIN is probably your phone number without the area code and without the dash. If you opened your account in 2011 or later, you probably chose your own PIN. You may also set up an EZlogin. (See detailed instructions here.) Click on "Loans" to see the items you have out. Check the one(s) you want renewed. (Note: You may only renew an item one time.) Click the "Renew" button. You will see the new due date, if the system lets you renew it (if it is not on hold for another patron or you renewed the item previously.)
5. How do I save a bibliography (listing of book titles)?
Conduct your search(es) in the online catalog and click in the check box for each title you wish to save. In the select action drop down menu, chose save list. (You will be prompted to login to your account if you haven't already.) You may add your titles to a previously saved list or to a new list. You have several options, including deleting or renaming the list, viewing bibliographic information, sending the list via email, or printing the list,
Note: in an edited work, the editor's name does not display in the My List view. This may be important when composing a formal bibliography.
6. How do I place a hold on a book that is currently checked out?
You can place a hold on a book that is currently checked out or missing. (For items not checked out, locate the book in the stacks.) To place a hold on an item that is currently checked out, view the full record of the book and note copy status. Click on the "Place Hold" button. (Note - you must be logged in to request a hold. If you are not already logged in, you will be prompted.) Confirm this is the item(s) you wish to place on hold on and click the "Submit Hold" button. 7. How do I search for Doctor of Ministry Projects?
In LS2PAC, enter "Doctor of Ministry" in the search box and click search. Then click on the Collection facet in the left sidebar and chose DMin Project.
1. I am a current student, staff, or faculty at Denver Seminary. How do I access the electronic databases from off campus?
Remote access is available for Denver Seminary students, faculty and staff. Authentication information necessary for remote access to the Library’s electronic databases can be found on MyDenSem. Just login to MyDenSem and click on the Quick links dropdown. Click on Library, then “Click here” under Electronic Database (EDB) Remote Access. Make sure you have popups enabled on your browser. 2. How do I print a full text article from ATLAReligion?
After opening the document by clicking on the PDF full text link, click on the printer icon in on the right. Include additional information if desired andf click print. Use the print Menu on your browser to print the desired pages. For more help regarding any of our EBSCO databases, go to our tutorials page.
3. How do I make a bibliography list from the online databases (such as ATLAReligion or PsycINFO)?
Perform your search(es) in the database of choice. Most databases have a check-box option by each title. Mark (or check the box) each title you want to save. Then select the link that says "Marked records" or "Selected records" or similar. From this subsequent page, with only the records you have marked showing, you may then print, email, or save your results.
4. How do I find journal articles on a particular Bible passage?
To search for particular scripture citations in ATLA, view this ATLA tutorial.
In the Religious & Theological Abstracts database, select the "BIBLE CITATION" field to search. Enter the book title only. To see how the book is entered in the database, click on the "Browse" button to the right of the entry box. Narrowing your search to a particular verse or range of verses is not precise in this database.
