The man we are looking for is one who would preach the authority of God’s word without apology (2 Tim. 4:2), move us to lift high the name of Jesus in worship (John 4:24), believe in the power of prayer (Eph.6:18), and equip us to share the good news of Jesus with boldness (Eph. 6:19-20) (Four Pillars-Vertical Church by James Macdonald). Our leaders and members feel that God is leading our church away from the status quo horizontal church to a vertical posture where church is about coming to worship and meet with God, seek his manifest presence, glorify Him, and not for what we can get out of it. We are tired of just doing church the way it’s always been done. He would also be a man that would cry out to God that his preaching would “not be with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.”(1 Cor. 2:4). Also, we are not interested in “12 steps to a better you” preaching. We are interested in mostly expository preaching with Jesus and the gospel woven into every sermon from the Old and New Testaments. We are also interested in a man who wants to make a long term commitment, make his home here, and not so much interested in the world’s view of climbing the ladder of success. Our church is part of the Wyoming Southern Baptist Convention, so he will need to agree with the Baptist Faith and Message.
There are some things you need to consider before applying for this position. Dubois is a small community of about 1,000 people in the town and approximately 500 more in the immediate area. It is located in northwestern Wyoming between the Wind River and Absaroka mountain ranges at 7,000 feet elevation. The awesomeness of God’s creation is everywhere you look. Dubois is one of the most beautiful mountain towns in Wyoming. Outdoor recreation opportunities are almost limitless. We have hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, rock climbing, four wheeling, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, kayaking, etc. So, it would be good if you are an outdoor family, but not mandatory. Possibly the main thing you need to consider is the location of the town. If you and/or your wife are interested in suburbia, this is not the place for you. While we have a good, new medical clinic and EMT service, good school, decent grocery store, good restaurants, and motels, we are considered the most isolated town in the lower 48 and we like it that way. It is 80 miles to the nearest stop light, Wal-Mart, Wendy’s, etc. and 200 miles to the nearest interstate. Some would consider this awful, but we think it is a blessing and people here think nothing of driving 80 miles to Wal-Mart or the movies, etc.(the roads are good). The towns of Riverton and Lander are 80 miles to the east and Jackson and the Grand Tetons are 80 miles to the west over a mountain pass that is kept open in the winter.
As you can see, this is not your average small town church or place. It is in great need of the Gospel. There is plenty of alcohol abuse, drug abuse, divorce, etc. Also, there are plenty of ‘enlightened people’, very independent people, and just plain hurting people. We believe the “fields are ripe for harvest”. One last thing is that we have a brand new church building that we believe God is going to fill (It is big for our size). If we haven’t scared you off and after much prayer, please send us a resume’.
